Movement from Romania to Slovenia
At some point after 538 AD your ancestors moved to Slovenia and once they reached there this is what they would have experienced:
Roman Slovenia and the Migration Period
Between 9 BC and 493 AD, Slovenia was ruled by local leaders in a period known as the Roman era. By 9 BC, the Romans had conquered the Illyrian and Celtic tribes of Slovenia and made the country part of Roman Illyricum. They brought with them advanced infrastructure and founded several cities but many of these were destroyed by raiding tribes in the Migration period. The Romans abandoned Slovenia at the end of the 4th century. By the 5th century it was included in the Ostrogothic Kingdom. People migrated from Italy and Greece and across the Roman Empire to Slovenia as the Romans invaded Slovenia and began to include it in the Eastern Roman Empire, sending in politicians, traders and laborers from around their empire.
The Ostrogothic Kingdom and Samo’s Empire
Between 494 AD and 658 AD, Slovenia was ruled by local leaders in a period known as the Early Byzantine era. In the 5th century Slovenia was part of the Ostrogothic Kingdom until its disintegration in 553., It was subsequently contested by the Byzantine Empire and the Lombards, who went on to settle Italy. Waves of Slavic tribes from the east reached Slovenia from the 6th century and settled the eastern Alps. A Slavic tribal union, lead by Samo, overthrew Avar rule in the area and Carantania, an independent Slavic state, was established. People migrated from Scandinavia and Eastern Europe and Central Asia to Slovenia due to Ostrogothic and then Slavic invaders. At the same time, populations moved from Slovenia to places like Italy and Croatia when the Lombards began to migrate to Italy, where they founded a kingdom in 568 AD.
